1. The Goal of Preventive Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures consistent 98%+ dehulling rates, minimizes electrical power draw, and prevents costly unplanned downtime during peak harvest and processing seasons.
2. Daily Maintenance Checklist (Every 8 Hours)
- Pre-Start Foreign Object Check: Inspect the feed hopper for tramp iron, stones, or oversized debris before energizing the motor. Operating a magnetic separator upstream is strongly advised.
- Sieve Dust Clearing: After shutdown, open the chamber access hatch and use a stiff nylon brush or industrial vacuum to clear residual bran from screen perforations.
- Cyclone Bran Discharge: Empty the cyclone collector collection bag to prevent backpressure buildup in the aspiration duct.
3. Weekly & Monthly Service Schedule
- Bearing Greasing (Every 200 Hours): Apply high-temperature lithium-complex grease (NLGI Grade 2) to main rotor shaft bearings. Avoid over-greasing, which causes seal failure.
- V-Belt Tension Check: Check V-belt deflection (deflection of 10–15 mm under moderate thumb pressure). Retighten motor slide rails if slipping occurs.
- Emery Roller Wear Inspection (Every 1,500 Hours): Inspect abrasive grit depth. When the emery surface wears smooth, replace or re-coat the roller to restore peeling aggression.
4. Common Troubleshooting Quick-Reference
| Symptom | Probable Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Low peeling efficiency (< 90%) | Insufficient chamber pressure or worn roller | Increase counterweight pressure; replace worn emery roller |
| High broken kernel rate (> 3%) | Excessive friction pressure or dry grain | Reduce counterweight; temper grain with 1% moisture |
| Bran mixing in clean grain discharge | Blocked cyclone or low fan suction | Clear cyclone duct; check suction fan belt tension |
